Awenasa

Awenasa

Awenasa, ("our home" in Cherokee) was created as a one-of-a-kind, intentional commission—woven as a ritual object meant to hold meaning, memory, and presence within a home.

Each ritual tapestry begins with conversation and listening. Rather than replicating a design, I work in response to what the piece is meant to hold—whether that’s a story, a transition, a landscape, or an inner feeling that wants form.

Awenasa features a rich range of fibers and colors, layered to create depth, movement, and quiet symbolism. Natural materials are central to the work and may include wool, cotton, linen, silk, and other organic fibers, chosen for their texture, tone, and felt quality. Color is approached intuitively and in response to the landscape shared by the clients, allowing the tapestry to emerge as a cohesive, living surface rather than a fixed image.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Please handle with care. Rebecca's work is designed to be a decorative wall hanging only, not to be used as rugs or regularly handled. Avoid moisture except to gently steam the fringe if necessary shortly after installation. Use clean hands to comb through fringe or straighten strings at the top, careful to avoid snagging fibers. No maintenance cleaning is necessary besides gently dusting with a feather dusty as needed.

NOTES

While color representation is made as accurate as possible, please note that hues may vary from monitor to monitor. If you are commissioning a custom piece, samples of the materials can be sent free of charge for you to handle and compare in person.

"I was in tears"

Working with Rebecca was far easier than I expected, not knowing what to expect as I had never asked to have a piece of artwork commissioned.

The words flowed easily as I thought about having Rebecca create a weaving that would remind my husband and me of a very special place we had visited for some special getaway weekends.I sent photos of the place we had in mind, and before too long, after deciding on the size of the weaving, sketches were emailed to me, along with the proposed color palette and yarn selections.

I was in tears when the first photos came through of the partially finished weaving, knowing that it was going to be even more beautiful than I ever expected.

She captured the scene perfectly, and we will forever enjoy it hanging over the fireplace in our main living area.We will forever enjoy this piece hanging over the fireplace in our main living space, as a reminder of a place and time that means so much to us.
